EN 13001 Weld Strength (2018) – Incorrect Weld Throat Thickness Calculation

Issue Description

An issue has been identified in the EN 13001 Weld Strength (2018) check in SDC Verifier 2026 R2.

The weld throat thickness used in strength calculations was incorrectly determined from Weld Finder data. Instead of using the actual weld throat thickness, the calculation used the weld leg length plus penetration depth.

This could result in an overestimated weld throat thickness and underestimated weld strength check results.

Affected Weld Types

The issue affects all weld types supported by the EN 13001 Weld Strength (2018) check except the “Double full penetration” weld type.

The extent of the discrepancy depends on the weld geometry.

Workaround and Resolution

A corrective patch is available for SDC Verifier 2026 R2.

Download the corrective patch

Follow the installation instructions included in the patch archive.

After applying the patch, users must recalculate any previously generated EN 13001 Weld Strength (2018) check results for affected weld types to obtain corrected results.

Re-running the finite element analysis is not required. Only the affected verification checks in SDC Verifier need to be recalculated.

Users who have relied on previous results from these checks should review the recalculated results before using them for engineering verification or reporting.
