API RP 2A-LRFD (1st, 1993)

Verify cylindrical member strength and joint stability offshore with API LRFD code checks built into SDC Verifier

The API RP 2A-LRFD standard focuses on the structural integrity of steel cylindrical members in fixed offshore platforms. SDC Verifier supports Section D and E checks — including tension, compression, bending, shear, and joint capacity — for circular tubes and welded connections.

About Standard

API RP 2A-LRFD (1st, 1993) is the first edition of the American Petroleum Institute’s Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) standard for offshore structures. It outlines the structural strength and stability requirements for steel tubular members used in fixed offshore platforms.

In SDC Verifier, the standard supports Sections D and E, covering both cylindrical member design and tubular joint checks. The implementation allows for:

  • Member verification under tension, compression, bending, shear, and hydrostatic pressure
  • Joint checks based on brace-chord configurations including K, TY, and X (Cross) types
  • Automated recognition of connections and overlap conditions
  • Load transfer and effective length calculations

This standard applies to circular tubular members with a wall thickness ≥ 6 mm, D/t ratio < 300, and material yield strength < 414 MPa.

SDC Verifier enables direct compliance checks within your FEA environment (ANSYS, Femap, or Simcenter 3D), ensuring efficient certification-ready analysis.
