Use SDC Verifier to run design and operating condition checks for gas transmission and distribution pipelines based on ASME B31.8 (2018). Evaluate stresses in straight pipe, elbows, and miters using elastic stress analysis and pressure/temperature-dependent parameters.
ASME B31.8 (2018) governs the design, fabrication, installation, and testing of natural gas pipeline systems. It applies to transmission lines, compressor stations, and distribution networks, including both onshore and offshore infrastructure.
In SDC Verifier, the ASME B31.8-based check set uses rules from Chapters 833.1–833.6 to evaluate internal pressure effects, temperature-induced stresses, and combined loads with stress intensification factors (SIFs) for welded elbows, miters, bends, and straight pipe segments.
SDC Verifier automatically accounts for pipe restraint conditions, thermal expansion, material properties, and design class. Checks are performed on user-defined geometry and operating conditions to compare calculated stresses with code-based limits for the selected design class. Final decisions on code compliance remain with the responsible engineer and the reviewing authority.
