Use SDC Verifier to evaluate structural members of below-the-hook lifting devices using a check set based on ASME BTH-1 (2017). Apply checks to I-shapes, channels, tubes, and bars with support for bracing conditions, design categories, and lateral-torsional buckling effects inside your FEA workflow.
ASME BTH-1 provides structural design criteria for below-the-hook lifting devices used in material handling. It defines minimum requirements for mechanical strength, safety factors, and buckling resistance. The 2017 edition introduces design categories (A, B, C) based on operating conditions and uses allowable stress methods for tension, compression, bending, and shear. SDC Verifier uses selected provisions from ASME BTH-1:2017 to build a member check set. The standard text is not included; engineers must work from their own licensed copy of ASME BTH-1 and any related standards.
In SDC Verifier, the BTH-1:2017-based check set supports member classification, net area reductions, bracing conditions, and moment modification factors (Cb) for symmetric structural sections such as I-beams, channels, tubes, and bars.
The check set is intended to support engineering verification of lifting members in cranes, hoists, and custom lifters. Final interpretation of ASME BTH-1 and responsibility for code compliance remain with the engineer of record and any reviewing or certifying authority.
