Use SDC Verifier to perform elastic stress–based fatigue assessment for pressure vessel parts, using smooth-bar fatigue curves and parameters derived from ASME Section VIII Division 2 (2010).
ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 2 (2010) defines stress and fatigue design requirements for pressure vessel components using a design-by-analysis approach. SDC Verifier provides a predefined fatigue check set based on selected provisions of this division. The standard text is not included; engineers must work from their own licensed copy of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
In SDC Verifier, the ASME VIII-2-based fatigue check uses elastic stress analysis and smooth-bar fatigue curves (for example, following the procedures in Sections 5.5.3 and 3.F.1 of the 2010 edition) to evaluate allowable stress ranges and cumulative fatigue usage for vessel components.
The implementation supports material-specific parameters such as temperature-dependent elastic modulus, allowable stress ranges, and weld quality penalty factors. You can either use system-calculated fatigue penalty factors or override them with user-defined values (e.g., Kev and Spk) for full control in line with project assumptions.
The check set follows the design-by-analysis and fatigue assessment principles defined in ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 2 and is intended to support engineering evaluation of high-pressure vessels in fixed installations. Final interpretation of the code and responsibility for compliance remain with the engineer of record and any reviewing or certifying authority
