BV NR615 Plate Buckling (2023)

Buckling assessment for plated structures based on Bureau Veritas NR615 (July 2023).

Now fully automated in SDC Verifier for Ansys, Femap, and Simcenter.

About Standard

The BV NR615 Plate Buckling (2023) standard is implemented in SDC Verifier according to Bureau Veritas’ Buckling Assessment of Plated Structures, July 2023 edition. It enables comprehensive assessment of buckling and ultimate strength for unstiffened plates and structural panels.

The Plate and Stiffener Buckling Checks are performed using section-based recognition through the Panel Finder tool, which identifies plate geometry automatically. The calculation supports direct strength analysis and includes safety factors, slenderness checks, and partial factors per standard requirements.

Key implemented features:

  • Appendix 2 buckling assessment methods
  • Slenderness coefficient (C=100/125) and thickness factors
  • Partial safety factors for different loading scenarios
  • Automatic stress transformation for plate directions
  • CSR-based equivalent plate dimension calculation

Calculations run on each element and account for material properties, local geometry, and load definitions. Users can choose to override plate thickness manually, or rely on property-based thickness values.

The implementation supports engineers working on hull structures, bulkheads, corrugated panels, pillars, and other plate-dominant structural elements requiring classification approval.
