DIN 15018 (1984)

Fully supported in SDC Verifier using the Allowable Stress Design method.

Static and fatigue checks for crane steel structures according to Germany’s foundational crane design standard.

About Standard

The DIN 15018 (1984) standard provides static and fatigue strength assessments for crane structures and crane-related steel equipment. SDC Verifier implements both checks using ASD (Allowable Stress Design) methodology and supports all relevant classifications, load spectrums, and material parameters.

Static Check The allowable static stress is the lower of the material’s yield stress or 70% of its tensile strength. For shear stress, the limit is divided by √3.

Fatigue Check Fatigue strength is verified using calculated stress ranges and notch classifications (K0–K4 for welded joints and W0–W2 for non-welded elements). Fatigue stress limits are defined by crane group and weld type, with reduction coefficients for shear direction.

Key Features:

  • Full fatigue setup using Weld TypeElement Group, and Material Type
  • Rainflow counting supported (Enterprise license)
  • Automatic classification of load spectra (S0–S3) and load cycles (N1–N4)
  • User-defined safety factors for static and fatigue checks
  • Material data integration (Yield/Tensile)
  • Utilization factor calculation for directional stress components

DIN 15018 remains in use in legacy and industrial crane design projects, despite being replaced by DIN EN 13001. It remains a valuable reference for mobile steel structures and continuous conveyors.
