About Standard

The DNV CN30 Plate Buckling (1995) standard assesses local plate stability under in-plane stresses using serviceability and ultimate strength limits. SDC Verifier automates this verification based on plate geometry and converted FE stresses, aligned with the 1995 DNV Rules for Ships.

This standard is designed to ensure structural stability at both individual element level and panel level, considering both critical elastic buckling and von Mises equivalent stress states.

Design Outcome: This standard helps engineers determine whether existing plating dimensions are acceptable or if reinforcement is needed. When deformation/fatigue is not an issue, it also supports ultimate capacity checks of plates between stiffeners.
