DNV OS-C101-LRFD Weld Strength (2024)

Perform weld strength verification for offshore structures based on the July 2024 edition of DNV’s LRFD design standard.

Built-in support for eccentricity, safety factors, and weld classification.

About Standard

DNV OS-C101-LRFD Weld Strength (2024), based on Chapter 2, Section 5 of the DNV Offshore Structural Design Standard, defines weld strength assessment procedures using Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD).

In SDC Verifier, the implementation automates checks for:

  • Weld geometry: verification of leg length, section properties
  • Stress evaluations: start/end weld throat stress and Von Mises equivalent
  • Utilization checks: overall and per-material safety margins
  • Eccentricity effects: moment correction for single fillet welds

Key parameters include:

  • Beta_w: correlation factor (Table 4)
  • Gamma_Mw: weld safety factor (Table 5)
  • Gamma_M: material resistance factor (=1.15)
  • Minimum weld leg length: validated using tank location context

Weld stress calculations are consistent with DNV guidance, assuming weld angle = 0° and resistance through the weld throat. The software ensures all required material properties (yield/tensile) are present.
