Eurocode3 Plate Buckling (EN 1993-1-5, 2006)

Evaluate in-plane buckling resistance of stiffened and unstiffened plates.

Automated verification of steel plates under compressive and shear stress, compliant with Eurocode 3 Chapter 10.

About Standard

Eurocode3 Plate Buckling (EN 1993-1-5, 2006) provides calculation rules for the buckling behavior of plated structural elements subject to in-plane forces. Chapter 10 is implemented in SDC Verifier to assess both stiffened and unstiffened plate sections using fully automated geometry recognition and directional stress mapping.

Key features of the implementation:

  • Panel Finder tool automatically identifies plates and sections from FEA mesh
  • Supports both CSR-based equivalent dimensions and actual model geometry
  • Stress conversion logic aligns element-based results to panel principal directions (X, Y, XY)
  • Supports user-defined or element-based plate thickness
  • Buckling checks use critical stress factors from EN 1993-1-5 Tables 4.1, 4.2 and 5.1

Configurable parameters:

  • Element Position Table (4.1 / 4.2)
  • End Post Type and Plate Boundary Condition
  • Plate Thickness Scaling and Averaging Mode
  • Alpha and Eta material coefficients
  • γM1 safety factor for member stability

The implementation is suitable for ship and offshore plating, civil engineering components, and industrial structures using panelized shell modeling.
