LR CSR Plate Buckling (2024)

Plate buckling checks for bulk carriers and oil tankers per January 2024 LR CSR.

Automated verification based on LR Common Structural Rules, Part 1, Chapter 8 — Buckling.

About Standard

The LR CSR Plate Buckling (2024) implementation in SDC Verifier enables direct strength assessment of ship structures based on Lloyd’s Register Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers, effective January 2024.

Scope of Application:

  • Hull envelope, tank boundaries, and internal structures
  • Plate panels and stiffeners within recognized Sections using the Panel Finder tool
  • Stiffness-sensitive regions exposed to concentrated loads

Key Features:

  • Based on Pt.1, Ch.8 of the 2024 LR CSR
  • Fully automated plate and stiffener recognition with editable boundary options
  • Stress conversion to plate axes (X, Y, XY) from FEA results
  • Material yield/tensile strength auto-validated

Customizable Parameters:

  • Assessment Method: Direct strength as per Section 4
  • Slenderness Coefficient (C): C = 100 (hull, tanks), C = 125 (other)
  • Partial Safety Factor (S): Adjusted per load type
  • Stress Source: Choose between max element or plate-average stress
  • Thickness Input: Use FEA property thickness or set manually

Calculations follow CSR-equivalent rectangular plate dimension methodology. Plate orientation and geometry are derived per LR CSR Section 4 (2.3) rules.
