Eurocode 3 Welds 1D (EN 1993-1-8, 2005)

Verification of welded joint strength for RHS and H/I connections under EN 1993-1-8:2005 (Section 4 – Design of Joints).

Perform code-compliant T, X, and Y weld checks for rectangular hollow section and I-beam geometries.

About Standard

The Eurocode 3 Welds 1D (EN 1993-1-8, 2005) standard enables automated checks of welded T-, X-, and Y-connections involving RHS chords and RHS or H/I braces, per Section 4 of Eurocode 3: Design of Joints.

The implementation in SDC Verifier includes:

  • Automatic detection of eligible welded joints using the Connection Finder.
  • Joint types supported: RHS chord with RHS or H/I braces.
  • Custom weld size definition: Fillet, Partial Penetration, Flare Bevel, and combined weld types.
  • User-defined weld geometry: Throat size and penetration depth can be set per point on the joint.
  • Correlation factor βw: Automatically applied based on material type (EN1993-1-8 Table 4.1).
  • Safety factor γM2 = 1.25 for plated structures.

Connections are assessed for compliance with geometric and strength-based constraints. All welds are checked using the appropriate strength formulas and resistance factors based on material data and joint configuration.

Joint setup is assisted through an intuitive GUI for weld sizing and configuration. Existing selections can be overwritten or preserved using batch editing tools. All material properties (Yield/Tensile) must be pre-defined for valid verification.
