ABS FPI Curved Plate Buckling (2025)

Planned verification of curved plate buckling in floating production structures according to the ABS Rules for Building and Classing Floating Production Installations.

About Standard

Curved and cylindrical plated components are common in floating production structures, where shell geometry changes the way compressive, shear, and pressure loads affect stability. This planned check is intended for model regions where a flat-plate buckling workflow is not sufficient.

Target verification scope

  • Buckling verification for applicable curved or cylindrical plated regions.
  • Use of geometry, material, thickness, support conditions, and FEA load effects required by the standard.
  • Code-specific stability checks for shell-like components within the supported scope.
  • Report output that identifies governing assumptions and results for engineering review.

Planned workflow in SDC Verifier

The intended workflow is to select supported curved plate regions, supply or recognize the required geometric data, map FEA results to the code inputs, and review the governing result. Exact geometry limits and load treatment will be confirmed at release.

Availability

Development work is underway. The final supported shell geometries and check coverage will be confirmed before release.
