ASME BTH-1 Weld Strength (2023)

Planned weld-strength verification for below-the-hook lifting devices according to ASME BTH-1-2023.

About Standard

ASME BTH-1 provides structural and mechanical design criteria for below-the-hook lifting devices used with ASME B30.20 equipment. Weld verification is relevant where the capacity of a lifting device depends on welded load paths, local force transfer, and the design conditions defined by the standard.

Target verification scope

  • Weld-strength checks for supported welded details in below-the-hook lifting devices.
  • Use of applicable weld geometry, material data, and FEA-derived design actions.
  • Code-aligned resistance checks for the released detail types and loading conditions.
  • Clear output for review of inputs, assumptions, and governing results.

Planned workflow in SDC Verifier

The intended workflow is to select supported weld regions, define the relevant detail data, map model results to the design actions, and review the governing check in the report. Detail types and release coverage are not yet finalized.

Availability

This check is on the SDC Verifier roadmap. Scope, delivery timing, and supported weld details have not yet been finalized.
